Detect and evaluate lightning strikes - LM-S lightning monitoring system

You can be informed online of lightning strikes in your system and benefit from the option of preventive maintenance.

The new LM-S lightning monitoring system detects and analyzes all the important parameters of lightning surge currents. The actual system load can be derived from this.

Based on this information you can determine whether any checks or maintenance are required. This is particularly beneficial for systems in exposed locations, such as wind turbines.

How does the lightning monitoring system work?

The lightning monitoring system detects surge currents based on the Faraday effect. A polarized light signal is used as the measuring medium.

The magnetic flux density of the surge current influences the plane of polarization of the light signal.

Based on this effect, the evaluation unit analyzes the typical parameters of the lightning characteristic, such as the maximum current strength, polarity, lightning current rate of rise, charge, and energy.

The higher-level management system is able to process and evaluate this information.

Evaluation unit

The evaluation unit is installed in the system's control cabinet.

It permanently analyzes the light signals from the sensors.

An LED chain signals the current status on the device.

Conversion and communication

The replaceable optoelectronic converter is designed to connect up to three sensors.

You can gain remote access to key system data via the Ethernet interface and the integrated web interface.
